What We Do
Alimony
Men and women in Alabama who are economically dependent on their spouse may be entitled to alimony, also called spousal support, while a divorce is pending or as part of a finalized divorce. A court may order alimony paid from a spouse's income or estate, and it may have to be paid in a lump sum or in periodic payments.
The Law Offices of Judy H. Barganier, P.C., can help spouses obtain or pay appropriate support.
Alimony is not a punishment or reward. The court considers many factors when determining whether to award alimony and in assessing an appropriate amount. These factors include the standard of living during the marriage, the length of the marriage, the age and health of the parties, the financial resources, whether a spouse requires education or training before obtaining a job, the contributions each party made to the marriage, and the parties' assets and liabilities.
